If you want potential buyers to be interested in your website then you need a decent amount of traffic to impress them. This article is going to express in detail starting with the most successful ways of increasing traffic to your website.
1. Google and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Those websites with thousands of visitors per day on average get most of their traffic from Google. This is because they would be on the first 5 pages of the Google index for a certain keyword. Getting on the first 5 pages of the Google index for good keywords (keywords people would realistically search) is easier said than done. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). In short however to get good SEO arguably you will need to do a few things. On-page (the website itself) you need to have done keyword research and then keyword density. This means involving keywords within headings and content in your site. Another on-page technique is being very content rich. SEO experts say that having a lot of new but popular content and always updating the site with content is king of SEO and one of the most important things. Off-page SEO includes submitting articles, directories, back links etc so Google can easily find your website.
2. Article Marketing
This is one of the most successful ways of increasing traffic because the most popular search engine, Google, is a 'liaison' of it. All you have to do is write an article (preferably relating to your website) and post the articles online. You will include a link to your website in your article. Whenever a person searches about a category related to your article, it will appear hopefully near the top depending on your keywords. It not only gives them access to your website due to the link but it will be a good back link to help with SEO which is key to everything. The visitors will be targeted and writing and submitting articles is free. A popular article submission website is ezinearticles.com.
3. Pay-Per-Click Advertisement
This is one of the most powerful advertisement tools on the internet because the website that hosts the advertisement gets millions/billions of traffic every day. Despite this it is one of the most expensive ways of advertising so it probably isn't the best option for new website owners or sole traders. It works by creating a word-based and or image advertisement and providing a link to your website.
You will then be able to add specific keywords which people will have to search for your site to be advertised. The advertisement service will only be charged once the advertisements are clicked. This makes this method very efficient. An example of this is Googles AdWords. Please note that being a part of AdWords does not compliment SEO and won't give you a better page rank.
4. Forum Posting
This is one of my favorite methods of advertising because you can target very relevant traffic. All you need to do is join a forum or community which is relevant to your website and create a signature with a backlink to your website. You then start creating threads or posting and your signature will appear beneath what you have written. With this you need to be very careful that you only post decent and relevant threads and posts otherwise you will be spamming (writing useless content only to get your signature on the forum). Not only will this be a potential ban but people are not silly and will recognize this and will then give your website or online business a bad name.
5. Viral Marketing
Web 2.0 marketing is becoming ever so popular. YouTube is one of the most used websites in the world and creating a useful video on there can help increase traffic. Also make sure that the video is relevant to your website otherwise you won't get the most traffic out of it. I find the best way to advertise on YouTube is to write your link in the top left hand box so it is continually seen throughout the video. However, with this the consumer won't be able to directly click on that link to access the site so I find by creating a link in the description box always help so they can have direct access to your site without having to manually copy and pasting it into the browser.
There are many other ways of marketing your website to increase traffic to your website but these five are my favorites. You carry all these 5 out efficiently you will see your traffic increasing and increasing. Remember that the key is SEO, having a good page rank for a keyword, this is where most of your traffic will come from. Be patient, and keep plugging away.
